Description
Abies nordmanniana, commonly known as Nordmann Fir, is a popular Christmas tree admired for its lush, deep-green foliage, symmetrical shape and excellent needle retention. Its soft, glossy needles make it a beautiful choice for festive decorations.
💧 Watering
For cut Christmas trees, keep the stand filled with fresh water and check daily. Potted trees should be watered when the soil surface begins to dry.
☀️ Light
Keep indoors in a cool, bright position away from direct sunlight, heaters and fireplaces. Avoid prolonged exposure to warm indoor conditions.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features dense, evergreen branches with soft, dark-green needles and silvery undersides. Known for retaining its needles well throughout the festive season.
🪴 Potting Mix
For living, rooted trees, use fertile, well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Nordmann Fir prefers cool conditions and is not well suited to Malta’s hot, dry summers.
🌿 Fertilizer
Cut Christmas trees do not require fertilizer. Living trees can be fed lightly in spring if actively growing.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. However, needles can irritate the mouth or digestive system if swallowed. Prevent pets from drinking Christmas tree stand water.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Primarily valued for its attractive evergreen foliage, excellent needle retention and festive appearance rather than proven indoor air-purifying properties.
