Description
Prunus armeniaca Nana is a compact deciduous fruit tree admired for its delicate spring blossoms and sweet, golden-orange apricots. Its smaller growth habit makes it ideal for sunny gardens, patios and large containers.
💧 Watering
Water regularly while establishing. Deep watering is important during Malta’s hot summers, particularly during fruit development.
☀️ Light
Thrives in full sun, ideally receiving 6–8 hours daily. Choose a sheltered position with good airflow.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Produces beautiful white to pale-pink spring blossoms followed by edible apricots. Loses its leaves in winter. Fruit production depends on suitable winter chilling and growing conditions.
🪴 Potting Mix
Prefers fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost. For containers, use a large pot with good drainage.
🌿 Fertilizer
Apply a balanced fruit tree fertilizer in early spring. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which encourages leafy growth over fruiting.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Apricot pits, leaves and stems are toxic to cats and dogs. They contain compounds that can release cyanide when chewed. Ripe apricot flesh without the stone is generally safe in small amounts.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Primarily valued for its attractive spring blossoms, edible fruit and ornamental appeal rather than specific air-purifying properties.
