🪴 Planting Instructions

• When to plant: Early autumn for a winter display
• Planting depth: For indoor pots, leave the bulb tips just above the compost surface.
• Spacing: Place bulbs close together without touching each other or the pot sides.
• Potting mix: Use a free-draining multipurpose compost in a pot with drainage holes.
• Planting method: Plant pointed ends upwards and water lightly. Keep in a cool, dark place while roots develop, following the packet’s temperature and timing instructions. Prepared bulbs commonly need around 10–12 weeks for root and shoot development.

Wear gloves when handling, as the bulbs can irritate skin.

💧 Watering

Keep the compost lightly moist during rooting and growth. Check regularly and water only when needed, allowing excess water to drain away. Avoid wetting the bulb tops or leaving water in saucers.

☀️ Light & Position

Once the bulbs are well rooted and shoots have developed, gradually move them into brighter conditions. Display in bright indirect light in a cool room, away from heaters and strong direct sunshine.

🌿 Feeding

The bulbs contain reserves for their first display. If keeping them after flowering, apply a potassium-rich liquid fertilizer while the leaves remain green, following the product instructions.

🍃 After Flowering

Remove faded flower stalks and leave the foliage until it yellows naturally. Bulbs grown in compost can be tried outdoors in a sunny, well-drained position, although future flowers may be smaller and flowering is not guaranteed.

Use fresh prepared bulbs for another early indoor display.

A warm cupboard or room is unsuitable for the initial rooting stage. In Malta, follow the packet’s cooling instructions carefully, as autumn temperatures may remain too high.

“Prepared” does not necessarily mean ready to flower immediately. Avoid adding a separate refrigerator treatment unless recommended by the supplier.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety

Toxic to cats and dogs if eaten, especially the bulbs. Keep the display away from pets. Bulbs can also irritate skin when handled.
