Description

💧 Watering

Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. During Malta’s hot summers, indoor plants may need more frequent watering, while in winter watering can be reduced.

☀️ Light

Chamaedorea thrives in bright, indirect light but also tolerates lower light conditions, making it ideal for indoor spaces. Avoid direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves.

🍃 Foliage / Growth

This slow-growing palm develops elegant, feathery green fronds that create a soft, lush appearance. Remove only old or yellowing leaves, and avoid excessive pruning, as new growth emerges from the centre of the plant.

🪴 Potting Mix

Use a well-draining, peat-free indoor potting mix enriched with organic matter. A pot with good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

🌿 Fertilizer

Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety

Chamaedorea is non-toxic to both cats and dogs, making it an excellent choice for pet-friendly homes.

🌬️ Air Purifying

Chamaedorea is recognised as one of the better indoor air-purifying plants. Its foliage can help improve indoor air quality by filtering common airborne pollutants while adding natural humidity to the room.
