☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light. To get those famous red blooms, it needs plenty of light, but never direct sun. A spot near a bright window with a sheer curtain is ideal. If the light is too low, the plant will grow plenty of leaves but will refuse to flower.

💧 Watering
Moderate. It is an epiphyte (in nature, it grows on trees), so its roots need to breathe.
The Rule: Water when the top 2-3cm of soil is dry.
The Malta Tip: In summer, it appreciates a misting or a humidity tray, especially if you have the air conditioning running, which dries out the air.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
It has trailing, graceful stems covered in thick, waxy, dark green leaves. The ‘Mona Lisa’ variety is particularly prized because it tends to flower more reliably and has slightly more “relaxed” foliage than other Lipstick plants.

🪴 Potting Mix
Light and airy. Use a mix of potting soil, perlite, and a bit of orchid bark. It hates sitting in heavy, compact mud.

🌿 Fertilizer
Bloom Booster. During spring and summer, use a liquid fertilizer that is slightly higher in phosphorus (often labeled as “Flowering Plant Food”) every 2 weeks to encourage those red “lipsticks.”

Safe! The Lipstick Plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a worry-free choice for a hanging display.
However, be advised that the consumption of any plant material may cause vomiting and gastrointestinal upset for dogs and cats. Sherries will not be held accountable to any symptom. If you believe that your animal is ill or may have ingested a poisonous substance, please contact a vet immediately.
