Description
Prunus persica Nana is a compact deciduous fruit tree admired for its beautiful pink spring blossoms and sweet, juicy peaches. Its smaller growth habit makes it ideal for sunny gardens, patios and large containers.
💧 Watering
Water regularly while establishing. Deep watering is essential during Malta’s hot summers, especially during fruit development.
☀️ Light
Thrives in full sun, ideally receiving 6–8 hours daily. Choose a sheltered position with good airflow.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Produces narrow green leaves, attractive pink spring flowers and edible peaches. Loses its leaves in winter. Fruit production depends on the variety and sufficient winter chilling.
🪴 Potting Mix
Prefers fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost. For containers, use a large pot with good drainage.
🌿 Fertilizer
Apply a balanced fruit tree fertilizer in early spring. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which encourages leafy growth over fruiting.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Peach stones, leaves and stems are toxic to cats and dogs. They contain compounds that can release cyanide when chewed. Ripe peach flesh without the stone is generally safe in small amounts.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Primarily valued for its beautiful spring blossoms, edible fruit and ornamental appeal rather than specific air-purifying properties.
