Description

Mixed Cut-and-Come-Again Lettuce, known in Italian as Lattuga Misticanza da Taglio, is a colourful assortment of tender salad leaves selected for their different shapes, textures and flavours. The mixture typically includes several green and red lettuce varieties, creating an attractive and delicious combination for home vegetable gardens.

Perfect for fresh salads, sandwiches, wraps and garnishes, Misticanza Lettuce is particularly valued for its quick growth and ability to produce repeated harvests. Its compact growing habit makes it an excellent choice for raised beds, balcony planters and containers.

🌱 Growing Instructions

☀️ Sunlight: Prefers 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Benefits from partial afternoon shade during Malta’s warmer months.

💧 Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Regular watering encourages tender leaves and healthy regrowth.

🌱 Soil: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost or organic matter.

🌡️ Temperature: Grows best between 10°C–22°C. Excessive heat can cause premature flowering and bitter leaves.

📏 Spacing: Allow approximately 15–20 cm between plants for regular leaf harvesting, with additional space if growing larger plants.

🌾 Fertilizer: Apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer every 3–4 weeks during active growth, following product instructions.

✂️ Harvesting: Cut leaves when approximately 10–15 cm tall, leaving 3–5 cm of growth above the soil for regrowth. The first harvest is typically ready 25–40 days after transplanting, depending on growing conditions. Several harvests are possible with proper care.

🌿 Local Growing Tips (Malta)

Best planting season: September to April, when cooler temperatures encourage healthy leaf production.

Position: Sunny vegetable gardens, raised beds, balcony planters or containers. Provide afternoon shade during warmer periods.

Companion plants: Carrots, radishes, onions and spring onions.

Common issue: Hot weather and irregular watering can cause premature flowering (bolting) and bitter leaves. Maintain consistent moisture and harvest regularly to encourage fresh growth.
