Plant Type: Succulent
Growth Rate: Slow to Moderate
Growth Habit: Upright, branching and shrub-like
Mature Size: Approximately 1–2 metres tall × 1–1.5 metres wide when mature
Care Guide
☀️ Light:
Prefers very bright light with several hours of direct sunlight. In Malta, gradually acclimatise plants to strong sunlight and provide some protection from intense summer afternoon sun, particularly for indoor-grown specimens.
💧 Watering:
Water thoroughly, allowing the compost to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during winter when growth slows. Avoid overwatering, as the thick leaves already store moisture.
🌱 Soil:
Use a free-draining cactus and succulent compost with added mineral grit, pumice or perlite to ensure excellent drainage.
🌡 Temperature:
Best grown between 15–30°C. Tolerates Malta’s warm summers well but should be protected from frost and prolonged temperatures below 5°C.
🌸 Flowering
Mature plants may produce attractive clusters of small, star-shaped white to pale pink flowers during late autumn and winter. Flowering is more likely in well-established specimens receiving plenty of light and a natural period of cooler, drier conditions.
