💧 Watering

Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry, keeping the compost lightly moist but never soggy. During Malta’s warm summers, the plant may require more frequent watering, while watering should be reduced during winter. Avoid allowing the soil to remain waterlogged.

☀️ Light

Dieffenbachia grows best in bright, indirect light. It tolerates moderate light levels but should be protected from direct sunlight, especially during Malta’s hot summer afternoons, as this can scorch the leaves.

🍃 Foliage / Growth

This upright, slow to moderate-growing plant produces large, broad leaves with striking cream and green variegation that brighten indoor spaces. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain a healthy appearance, and rotate the pot regularly for even growth.

🪴 Potting Mix

Use a rich, well-draining indoor potting mix containing organic matter, with added perlite or bark to improve drainage. Always use a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot.

🌿 Fertilizer

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety

Dieffenbachia is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause severe mouth irritation, swelling, and difficulty swallowing. Keep the plant well out of reach of pets and young children.
