Golden White Celery (Apium graveolens var. dulce), also known as Sedano Bianco Dorato, is an attractive celery variety prized for its thick, tender, golden-white stalks and fresh green foliage. Its crisp texture and mild, slightly sweet flavour make it an excellent choice for home vegetable gardens.
Perfect for fresh salads, soups, stews, stocks and Mediterranean dishes, Golden White Celery can be enjoyed both raw and cooked. It grows particularly well during Malta’s cooler months when provided with consistent moisture.
🌱 Growing Instructions
☀️ Sunlight: Prefers 4–6 hours of sunlight daily. Benefits from partial afternoon shade during warmer weather.
💧 Watering: Requires regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Dry conditions can produce tough, stringy stalks.
🌱 Soil: Plant in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-draining soil enriched with compost or organic matter.
🌡️ Temperature: Grows best between 15°C–21°C. Protect from excessive summer heat and prolonged cold spells.
📏 Spacing: Allow approximately 25–30 cm between plants for healthy stalk development and good air circulation.
🌾 Fertilizer: Apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth, following product instructions.
✂️ Harvesting: Harvest outer stalks as needed or cut the entire plant when mature. For paler, more tender stalks, some golden celery varieties benefit from blanching before harvesting.

Best planting season: September to February, for growing during Malta’s cooler months.
Position: Vegetable gardens, raised beds or large containers with fertile soil and protection from intense afternoon sun.
Companion plants: Leeks, onions, lettuce and cabbage.
