Description

💧 Watering
Water deeply and regularly at the base of the plant, especially during the hot summer months. Allow the top 5 centimeters of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid wetting the leaves, as damp foliage can encourage fungal diseases.

☀️ Light
It requires full, direct sunlight for at least six hours every day to bloom heavily. It handles the Maltese heat well but appreciates a position with good air circulation to keep the plant healthy.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
It features dark green, serrated leaves and woody stems with thorns. Shrub roses grow into neat, bushy mounds that vary in size depending on the specific variety. Prune heavily in late winter to remove dead wood and encourage a massive flush of spring flowers.

🪴 Potting Mix
Thrives in rich, loamy, and well-draining soil. It adapts well to Malta’s naturally alkaline soil, but benefit greatly from adding organic compost or peat moss to the mix. Ensure any container used has excellent drainage holes.

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed heavily with a dedicated rose fertilizer once in early spring and again after the first big bloom cycle. Regular feeding throughout the growing season ensures a steady supply of new buds and flowers.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety**
Roses are generally non-toxic to dogs and cats. However, the sharp thorns on the stems can cause physical scratches or minor injuries to curious pets, so plant them away from high-traffic play areas.

🌬️ Air Purifying
The beautiful, classic fragrance provides a wonderful natural aromatherapy element for outdoor seating areas. The open flowers are also an essential, high-value food source for local bees and pollinators.
