Water thoroughly when the top few centimeters of soil have dried out, but ensure the pot never sits in water. During Malta’s humid winters, reduce watering significantly, as the plant is prone to root rot in cold, soggy soil.

☀️ Light
It thrives in full sun to partial shade; however, in Malta, a spot with some light afternoon shade can prevent the tips of the leaves from browning during heatwaves. It is highly adaptable and can even be grown in bright indoor spaces.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
It produces a dense cluster of long, sword-shaped green leaves atop a sturdy, woody trunk. It is a slow-to-moderate grower that eventually forms a branched tree-like structure, adding great vertical interest to a terrace.

🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a well-draining potting medium; a mix of multi-purpose compost with added grit or perlite is ideal for the Maltese climate. Good drainage is the most important factor for success in containers.

🌿 Fertilizer
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring and again in mid-summer to maintain lush foliage. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to weak, leggy growth that struggles in the wind.

❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
This plant is toxic to dogs and cats if nibbled, as it contains saponins that can cause vomiting or drooling. It is best placed in a corner or a tall pot where pets are less likely to interact with the foliage.
