Pleiospilos bolusii, commonly known as the Mimicry Plant or Living Rock, is a dwarf succulent native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It is famous for its evolutionary camouflage, having evolved to look exactly like the angular pieces of granite and cracked rocks in its natural habitat to avoid being eaten by animals.

Description

Because it is a stone plant, it has specific needs to prevent rot:

Light: Requires bright, filtered light or full sun. A south-facing window is ideal for indoor growth.

Watering: Water sparingly during its growth periods (spring and autumn). The soil must be completely dry before watering again.
Crucial: Avoid watering in winter or when the plant is dormant in the peak of summer.

Soil: Use a very gritty, fast-draining cactus or succulent mix. A ratio of 25% organic material to 75% pumice or grit is often recommended.

Temperature: It is drought-tolerant and can handle light frosts (down to about -7°C or 19°F), but it prefers warmer, drier climates.
