Description
💧 Watering
Allow the top two-thirds of the soil to dry out completely before watering, as Dracaenas are highly susceptible to root rot. During the humid Maltese winter, you may only need to water once a month to keep the plant healthy.
☀️ Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light, which is essential to keep the white stripes sharp and prevent the plant from becoming “leggy.” Avoid the fierce Maltese midday sun, as it will quickly scorch and brown the variegated edges.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features long, sword-shaped leaves that grow in a tight rosette atop a central woody cane. It is a slow-to-moderate grower, making it a reliable choice for a permanent decorative spot without frequent repotting.
🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a loose, well-draining potting soil enriched with perlite or pumice to ensure rapid drainage. This is vital in Malta to prevent moisture from lingering too long around the roots during humid spells.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half-strength only twice a year—once in spring and once in summer. Since Dracaenas are sensitive to fluoride in Maltese tap water, using filtered or rainwater will help prevent brown leaf tips.
❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Contains saponins which are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, potentially causing vomiting or drooling. It is best placed on a plant stand or in a corner where pets cannot reach the foliage.
🌬️ Air Purifying
An excellent natural filter that excels at removing indoor pollutants like formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene. It is a hardworking cleaner that helps maintain a fresh atmosphere in closed or air-conditioned rooms.
