Description

Make a bold statement with the legendary Dahlia ‘Emory Paul’. Known as one of the largest dahlias in the world, this “Super Giant” variety produces jaw-dropping, fluffy pink blooms that can reach the size of a dinner plate! Its vibrant rose-pink color and sheer size make it the absolute king of any garden.

Key Features for Malta:

Breathtaking Size: This is a decorative giant. A single bloom is enough to fill a vase and captivate anyone who sees it.

Tropical Vibes: The lush, deep-pink petals and large green foliage perfectly complement the Mediterranean landscape of Malta.

Versatile Planting: While it’s a giant, it grows beautifully both in garden borders and in large, deep containers on sunny terraces.

Continuous Summer Color: Once it starts blooming in mid-summer, it will keep producing these massive flowers right through until October.

Expert Tips for Growing ‘Emory Paul’ in Malta: Because this dahlia produces such massive flowers, it needs a little extra support:

Strong Staking is Mandatory: These flowers are so heavy that they will bend the stems without support. Insert a strong stake into the ground at the time of planting to avoid damaging the tuber later.

Hungry and Thirsty: Producing giant blooms takes energy. Use a high-quality fertilizer every two weeks once the plant is established and keep the soil consistently moist.

Morning Sun is Best: In Malta, ‘Emory Paul’ loves the sun but appreciates a bit of shade from the scorching 2 PM heat to keep its pink petals from drying out.

The “Big Bloom” Trick: If you want the absolute biggest flowers possible, snip off the smaller side-buds and leave only the main central bud on each stem.

Wind Protection: Because of its height and large flowers, plant it in a spot protected from strong Maltese winds to prevent the stems from snapping.

Color: Deep Rose-Pink.

Bloom Time: July – October.

Height: 100 – 120 cm (Note: This grows taller and wider than standard dahlias).

Season: Summer Bloomer.
