Climate Suitability: Being native to the Mediterranean region, these bulbs thrive in our local heat and rocky soils. They are exceptionally drought-tolerant once dormant.

Bloom Time: In Malta’s mild winters, expect these to bloom from late winter through early spring (typically February to April).

Growth Habit: Reaches a height of 25-40 cm. Perfect for the front of flower beds or “en masse” in pots.

Sun Requirements: Full sun to very light dappled shade.

Pollinator Friendly: Highly attractive to local bees and butterflies.

Pest Resistance: Generally Deer and Rabbit resistant (great for more rural Maltese gardens).

Expert Planting Tips for our Customers:

1. The “Wake Up” Soak: Before planting, soak the hard, nut-like corms in lukewarm water for 3–6 hours (but no longer than 12). This “wakes them up” and ensures much faster sprouting.

2. Planting Depth: Plant approximately 5–8 cm deep. Don’t worry about which side is “up”-these clever bulbs will find their way to the surface regardless.

3. Soil & Drainage: They hate “wet feet.” Ensure they are planted in well-draining soil or pots with plenty of drainage holes.

4. Summer Care: Once the foliage turns yellow in late spring, stop watering. The bulbs need a dry “rest” period during the hot Maltese summer to return next year.
