💧 Watering
In Malta’s scorching summers, water deeply once the top 5cm of soil feels dry, but reduce this significantly during the humid winter months. While drought-tolerant once established, container-grown palms need consistent moisture to prevent frond browning.

☀️ Light
This palm thrives in full sun and can handle the intense Maltese UV rays better than most. If kept indoors, place it in the brightest spot possible, such as a south-facing balcony or near a large window.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
It is a slow-growing evergreen featuring stiff, pinnate leaves that can reach impressive lengths. Be mindful of the sharp spines at the base of the fronds when pruning or moving the pot.

🪴 Potting Mix
Use a well-draining Mediterranean mix or a blend of potting soil with plenty of perlite and a bit of local grit. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot during the rare but heavy winter rainstorms.

🌿 Fertilizer
Apply a specialized palm fertilizer with added magnesium and potassium twice a year—once in early spring and once in mid-summer. This helps prevent the yellowing of fronds often seen in alkaline environments.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety
The plant itself is generally considered non-toxic to dogs and cats. However, the sharp, needle-like spines at the leaf bases can cause physical injury, so keep it out of reach of playful pets.

🌬️ Air Purifying
Like most palms, it is an excellent air purifier, capable of filtering common indoor toxins. Its large surface area makes it particularly effective at refreshing the air in large rooms or hallways.
