Description

☀️ Light
Full sun to partial shade. In Malta, the more sun they get, the more intense their leaf colors become. However, in a scorching July, they appreciate a little bit of shade in the afternoon to prevent “leaf burn.”

💧 Watering
Moderate. They are quite drought-tolerant once established. In a pot, water when the top 2-3cm of soil is dry. They don’t like to sit in a puddle, but they also don’t like to stay bone-dry for weeks like a cactus.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
Famous for waxy, high-gloss leaves. They come in amazing colors like ‘Evening Glow’ (gold and red) or ‘Pacific Night’ (deep purple). They are evergreen, so they stay beautiful in your Maltese garden all winter long.

🪴 Potting Mix
They are not picky! Any well-draining potting soil works. They handle the alkaline (limestone) soil of Malta very well.

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed once in the spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. They don’t need much to stay glossy.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Generally Safe. Coprosma is not considered toxic to cats or dogs, though eating a lot of any leaf can cause a mild tummy ache.
However, be advised that the consumption of any plant material may cause vomiting and gastrointestinal upset for dogs and cats. Sherries will not be held accountable to any symptom. If you believe that your animal is ill or may have ingested a poisonous substance, please contact a vet immediately.
