💧 Watering
Keep the soil lightly moist during active growth and flowering, without allowing it to become waterlogged. Continue watering as needed after flowering while the leaves remain green. Reduce watering once the foliage yellows and the bulbs become dormant.
☀️ Light & Position
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position. In Malta, morning sunshine with light afternoon shade can help protect the blooms from strong spring heat. Avoid deep shade and areas where rainwater collects.
🌿 Feeding
Apply a potassium-rich liquid fertilizer after flowering while the foliage remains green, following the product instructions. This helps replenish the bulbs for the following season.
🍃 After Flowering
Remove faded flower heads, leaving the stems and leaves intact. Allow the foliage to yellow and dry naturally before removing it. Do not tie or braid the leaves.
Bulbs can remain planted in well-drained soil. Divide crowded clumps if flowering begins to decline.
🇲🇹 Local Growing Tips
Plant during cooler autumn weather and ensure good drainage during winter rain. Avoid frequent summer irrigation around dormant bulbs. Repeat flowering may vary with the amount of winter cooling they receive.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Toxic to cats and dogs if eaten, especially the bulbs. Keep bulbs and plants away from pets that chew plants or dig in the soil. Wear gloves when handling, as daffodil sap and bulbs can irritate skin.
