💧 Watering
Requires consistent moisture; do not allow the root ball to dry out completely, as it rarely recovers from extreme drought. During a Maltese summer, you may need to water daily if kept in a terracotta pot to combat the rapid evaporation.

☀️ Light
Thrives in full sun to very bright, indirect light, which is essential for a heavy bloom. It handles the Maltese sun well but appreciates a bit of afternoon shade during the most intense heatwaves in July and August.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features tiny, heath-like leaves on arching branches that create a dense, “cespuglio” (bushy) habit. It is a slow-to-moderate grower that can be lightly trimmed after flowering to maintain its neat, rounded shape.

🪴 Potting Mix
Needs a very well-draining, sandy, or gritty acidic-to-neutral soil mix to prevent root rot. Avoid heavy clay; a mix of potting soil with plenty of perlite or horticultural sand works best for our local conditions.

🌿 Fertilizer
Use a low-phosphorus, liquid fertilizer at half-strength once a month during the flowering season. Because Maltese tap water is very alkaline (calcareous), using harvested rainwater is highly recommended to keep the plant from yellowing.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for pet owners. However, its fine, needle-like leaves aren’t particularly tasty, so most pets will tend to leave it alone.

🌬️ Air Purifying
While not a primary air-filtering plant, it helps oxygenate your living space and provides a refreshing, natural look. Its dense structure can also help trap fine dust particles in outdoor or semi-outdoor areas.
