💧 Watering

Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, particularly during Malta’s hot summer months. Once established, the plant can tolerate short dry spells, but prolonged drought may reduce growth and flowering. Avoid waterlogged soil.

☀️ Light

Grows best in full sun to partial shade. In Malta, it performs well with morning sun and light afternoon shade, especially during the peak of summer.

🍃 Foliage / Growth

This fast-growing evergreen to semi-evergreen climber produces large, heart-shaped leaves that provide excellent coverage. Its distinctive flowers appear from late spring through summer. Prune after the flowering season to control size and encourage dense growth.

🪴 Potting Mix

Plant in fertile, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. For container growing, use a quality potting mix and ensure the pot has good drainage.

🌿 Fertilizer

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer to support vigorous growth and flowering. Organic compost applied in spring is also beneficial.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety

Aristolochia species are considered toxic to both humans and pets if ingested, as they contain aristolochic acids. Keep the plant out of reach of children and animals, and wear gloves when handling or pruning if you have sensitive skin.

🌬️ Air Purifying

Aristolochia is grown primarily for its ornamental foliage and unusual flowers rather than its air-purifying qualities. Its dense growth provides natural shade and creates a lush, tropical appearance in the garden.
