Tabasco Chili Pepper
Origin: Native to the Mexican state of Tabasco.
Heat Level (SHU): Ranges from 30,000 to 50,000 SHU.
Comparison: It can be up to 20 times hotter than a jalapeño.
Appearance: Small, tapered fruits, about 1 to 2 inches long. They start pale yellowish-green, turn yellow and orange, and finally ripen to bright red.
Flavor: Sweet, smoky, and fruity with a juicy texture.
Uses: Best known for its use in Tabasco sauce. Also used in peppered vinegar and various hot sauces. Adds a vibrant color and heat to dishes like salsas and marinades.
Interesting Fact: The Tabasco pepper plant has a bushy growth habit and the fruits remain erect when mature, rather than hanging down from their stems.
