Description
💧 Watering
This grass loves moisture and thrives in damp conditions. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the scorching summer months. While it can survive dry spells once established, it looks its best with regular watering.
☀️ Light
It thrives in full sun to partial shade. The bright white variegation stays cleanest and sharpest when given plenty of direct sunlight. It tolerates the intense Maltese summer heat very well as long as the soil stays moist.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
It produces dense tufts of arching, blade-like leaves that sway beautifully in the wind. It spreads quickly via underground runners (rhizomes). Pro Tip: Because it is a vigorous spreader, it is best grown in pots or contained garden beds to keep it from taking over.
🪴 Potting Mix
It is not picky and grows well in almost any standard soil, including heavy clay or poor ground. It adapts easily to Malta’s alkaline conditions. For containers, a standard potting mix that holds moisture well is ideal.
🌿 Fertilizer
Requires very little feeding. A single application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring is more than enough to support lush, colorful growth for the entire season.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety**
It is non-toxic to dogs and cats. It is a safe, pet-friendly option for ground-level borders, sensory gardens, or low balcony pots.
🌬️ Air Purifying
The dense, fast-growing root system makes it fantastic for soil erosion control on sloped land or terraced banks. Its tall, rustling blades also act as a wonderful visual and acoustic screen for windy balconies.
