Description
💧 Watering
Allow the top half of the soil to dry out completely before watering, as Dracaenas are prone to root rot if kept too wet. During the humid Maltese winter, you may only need to water every 3 weeks.
☀️ Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light, which is essential to keep the “lemon” stripes vivid and fluorescent. Avoid the harsh, direct Maltese midday sun, as it will quickly bleach and burn the colorful foliage.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features long, sword-shaped leaves that grow in a decorative rosette pattern atop a central cane. It is a slow-to-moderate grower that maintains its upright, tidy shape for many years.
🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a loose, well-draining potting soil with a good amount of perlite or pumice. Good drainage is vital in Malta to prevent moisture from lingering too long around the roots during humid spells.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer, but stop entirely in winter. Like many Dracaenas, it is sensitive to the fluoride in Maltese tap water, so using filtered or rainwater will prevent brown tips.
❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, potentially causing vomiting, drooling, or dilated pupils. It is best placed on a plant stand or in a corner where pets cannot reach the leaves.
🌬️ Air Purifying
A top-tier air purifier that excels at removing indoor pollutants like formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene. It’s an excellent “breath of fresh air” for homes that rely heavily on air conditioning.
