Scotch Bonnet Chilli Pepper
Origin: Native to the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica.
Heat Level (SHU): Typically ranges from 100,000 to 350,000 SHU.
Comparison: It can be up to 140 times hotter than a jalapeño.
Appearance: Small, squat, and wrinkled peppers, typically 1 to 2 inches long. They ripen from green to bright red.
Flavor: Sweet, fruity, with hints of tomatoes and apples.
Uses: Essential in Caribbean cuisine, especially in dishes like jerk chicken and pepper sauces. Often used in hot sauces, marinades, and soups.
Interesting Fact: Rich in vitamins A and C, antioxidants, and capsaicin. Named for its resemblance to a Scottish tam o’ shanter bonnet.
