Description

Gomphrena is a cheerful, heat-loving flowering plant known for its long-lasting, globe-shaped blooms in shades of purple, pink, red, orange, and white. It thrives in Malta’s hot, sunny climate, making it an excellent choice for garden beds, borders, containers, and cut flower arrangements.

💧 Watering

Water regularly while the plant is becoming established. Once established, Gomphrena is drought-tolerant and only requires watering when the soil becomes dry. Avoid overwatering, as it prefers well-drained conditions.

☀️ Light

Gomphrena flourishes in full sun and performs best with at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Plenty of sunshine encourages stronger growth and more abundant flowering.

🍃 Foliage / Growth

This compact, bushy plant blooms continuously from late spring until autumn. Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage even more blooms, although many flowers remain attractive for weeks and are excellent for drying.

🪴 Potting Mix

Plant in a light, fertile, well-draining potting mix or garden soil. Good drainage is essential to maintain healthy roots.

🌿 Fertilizer

Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer. Avoid excessive fertilizing, as this can produce lush foliage with fewer flowers.

Gomphrena is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for pet-friendly gardens.
